Barrel Saddle ARWS-11001

Barrel racing saddles are specifically designed to give horse and rider the best chance possible at completing a barrel pattern in the fastest time possible. As you've probably guessed, the barrel saddle is designed to help the rider stay secure in the saddle and gives them aids to maintain balance during a race.

Barrel saddles are used for the event of Barrel Racing. They have a deep seat to grip the rider in during those sharp, fast turns. They also have a tall horn for a good grip and a taller pommel to secure the rider.

Headstall ARHBS-28001

The term headstall is refers to the piece of equipment that goes on the horse's head and attaches to the cheek pieces, which hold the bit in his mouth. By itself, a headstall is not a functional piece of equipment. It is a piece of the bridle. It is the central piece of the bridle and you cannot have a bridle without a headstall.

The headstall can be as simple as a plain piece of leather or nylon that goes behind the ears and has cheek pieces that attach to the bit on either end. Most western headstalls feature either a brow band or a split ear design. Some also have a throat latch. It is normal to have additional pieces added to the headstall to make a more complete and functional piece of tack.

The saddle pad or blanket provides a bit of extra cushioning between the saddle and the horse and helps the saddle stay clean. Without a pad or blanket, a saddle will sit directly on the horse, where it will absorb sweat and pick up dirt from the horse's back. No pad is a substitute for a properly fitted saddle.

The terms saddle blanket, saddle pad (or numnah), and saddle cloth refer to blankets, pads or fabrics inserted under a saddle. These are usually used to absorb sweat, cushion the saddle, and protect the horse's back.

A treeless saddle is simply a saddle without a tree. A treeless saddle, however, does not have this solid structure on which the rest of the saddle is built. Treeless saddles come in western, English and trail styles. These types of saddles tend to be more substantial than a simple back pad.

The lack of a rigid tree, and specifically the lack of weight-bearing tree points found on the front of a treed saddle, can reduce painful pressure points on a horse's back. A treeless saddle may flex and move with a horse's motion.
